Liz is the Founder and heart & soul of Empowering the One. While living in an orphanage with her family in 2016, she saw first hand the challenges facing these kids and envisioned a program that would prepare them for life on their own. She is excited to share her love of Haiti, the beauty and potential of these kids, and what empowering one child can do to change a life; including yours and mine.

The teenage kids told us some of the dreams they had. To become teachers and policemen. It was cool to see kids dream about making a better world for them and to want to do good for the community that they live in. It was fun to interact with the kids and try to learn their language. We had a day that we went to different learning stations, the kids taught us how to make bracelets and to say phrases in greeting people on the street.

It was amazing to see the conditions that people live in, the challenges they face each day just to live. While I was there I came to see how wonderful the Haitian people are, and how beautiful they are. There is a bright light in their eyes, and it felt like these people are ready to move forward to help their lives be better. When Empowering the One explained why we were there and the way we could help the teenagers at the orphanage I wanted to help. The youth becoming self reliant through education makes a brighter future become a reality.

"It was fun to meet the kids at the orphanage. When we arrived the school was competing with another school in a soccer game. I started playing soccer with some of the smaller kids on some grass next to the game, that was lots of fun. I think Empowering the One can help these kids reach their potential. People don't think about how important kids are and it seems like Empowering the One is trying to change that for the Haitian kids."
